Trish Fraunfelter
Living in the beautiful, natural environment of Berrilee, Trish Fraunfelter’s illustrations are a reflection of all that surrounds her. The creative influence of both the environment and the tactile organic nature of screen printed textiles have become Eastbourne Art, the outlet for her designs.

After graduating from school I was first employed in the advertising department of David Jones and went on to Grace Brothers advertising. This experience was akin to going to the university of advertising where we were involved in learning all aspects of the design & production of print media. I was a commercial artist. At the same time I studied at night at East Sydney Tech (now The National Art School) and graduated in Fine Arts. A year away in London followed then back home agencies beckoned.
They were heady days and as one of the first female art directors in Sydney I was incentivised constantly to move to the next agency. However, in the 70’s, the glass ceiling certainly existed.
Impossible to break through, a business opportunity presented and I took my savings, not ever having screen printed & created a little printing company, under my parents house. Within a couple of months we were asked to print the t-shirts for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar and I learned very quickly about the differences between artistic endeavour and business practices.
Throughout the years I have been involved in commercial screen printing, the design & creation of three dimensional wall hangings, large & small for office foyers in the CBD.
A course in stained glass / lead light led to commissions & teaching. I was then asked to conduct regional weekend workshops all over NSW. Teaching was a wonderful way for me to learn as my students had problems for which I had to find solutions.
Currently I am immersed in the illustration, design & production of a bespoke range of Home Wares & Wearables that is Eastbourne Art. The fabric colours reflect the natural environment I am fortunate to live in and all that we do is made to order & hand printed using traditional artisan screen printing practices. We have the use of beautiful natural linens, cotton & canvas drill and pride ourselves in the fact that everything made here has a creative look & feel but above all is practical & useful.
I enjoy the challenges presented everyday in my shed, working towards the next range, finding new fabrics and creating items to print on. Always reminding myself that I am only as good as what I do next in this ever changing industry.
