John Woulfe

Inspired by his life surrounded by the Australian bush and the ocean, John creates bespoke sculptures of unparallel craftsmanship using rare, iconic Australian timbers. Both free standing or wall hung, his artworks comprise of unique combinations of Australian Red Cedar, Huon Pine, Blue Gum or Jarrah with Stainless steel & Sydney sandstone.
Purely handcrafted and designed by no one but John, each piece is 100% bespoke with endless opportunities in terms or size, structure, design, materials and more.

Before becoming full time artist, John was project managing & building high end residences, he is also a traditional shipwright.
John holds current public liability insurance & workcover white card.
The most recent commission of comparable size was a memorial to the rich shipbuilding heritage of the NSW Brisbane Water- John designed and created this piece-it is 30mtrs long and was officially opened in Nov 2015- throughout this project John liased with engineers-council staff-Rotary staff –he completed this project on time and within budget.
Project 2016 Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Newport NSW have just commissioned a large outdoor piece for the entrance of their yacht club- it will stand 3.2m tall and the sandstone alone will weigh 1.5 ton.
To broaden his field of skill and knowledge, he attended several summer schools at the University of Southern Queensland, at Toowoomba, learning violin-making, wood-carving, wood-turning, and cabinet-making, and ultimately to tutoring in these crafts.
Following retirement from his profession, Ron drifted into harp-making, and more recently has been experimenting with various forms of wind instruments based on the traditional didgeridoo of indigenous Australians.
