Alex Barthel is a Sydney glass artist, or “glasshopper, maker and breaker” working out of his Magura Glass Studio, named after the word meaning ‘fish’ in the Dharug language.

He specialises in kiln-formed moulded, fused and slumped glass pieces. He is fascinated by the interplay between light and colour in glass work, and draws on a variety of materials including coloured art glass, recycled pieces of windows, windscreens, marbles, bottles, fish bones and whatever else he can lay his hands on! Every glass artwork is a unique collectors piece.
